In September 2024, our board members James Corcoran and Katelyn Walsh raised the Irish flag in Paris and participated in the "Sepsis Stronger Together" event at the Palais d'lena. They shared their own personal experiences with sepsis and advocated for change in how Europe views sepsis. The event provided an invaluable opportunity to learn from other charities and patient-led organisations about the effective strategies being implemented in their own countries. This event had people from all over Europe including the UK, Germany, Sweden, France, Belgium and Spain.
On October 4th 2024, the Irish Sepsis Foundation was featured in The Lancet - one of the world's most prestigious medical journals. Representing the Irish Sepsis Foundation, James Corcoran was one of the co - authors of this significant publication. This landmark occasion included implementing a comprehensive European Sepsis Plan. This declaration outlines 8 key priorities to guide a coordinated effort across Europe in the fight against sepsis. It emphasises the urgent need for improved awareness, timely diagnosis, and treatment protocols to tackle the high mortality and long term complications associated with sepsis. This call to action is aimed at reducing sepsis cases worldwide and improving outcomes through coordinated global efforts.
