Stars for Sepsis Event - World Sepsis Day 2024

In September 2024 on World Sepsis Day, we hosted our first Stars for Sepsis Event in Rochestown Park Hotel where the "Sepsis Six" spoke about their experiences from sepsis.

Through their powerful speeches we learned how critically ill they, or someone in their family, had been due to sepsis. They discussed not only the severe physical impact of the illness but also the mental toll it took on both them and their loved ones, highlighting how sepsis affects entire families.

Our speakers were - Simone Kavanagh, Leah Punch, Robbie Hogan, Sinead O' Reilly, Kim Wyse and Katelyn Walsh. Our Stars for Sepsis event goal was to urge the public to learn about sepsis and to honour sepsis survivors and those we have lost from sepsis.

Keith O' Neill From Novus Diagnostics, and Dr. Grace Arenas from BioMerieux who gave excellent speeches about their future plans to improve patient outcomes for sepsis and advocating for change. Keith O' Neill from Novus Diagnostics in Dublin are developing a revolutionary new clinical diagnostics technology. The company's first product is a rapid bedside test for bloodstream infections - commonly associated with Sepsis, which kills more than 11 million people around the world each year.

The Novus diagnostic test, Septec, will bring diagnostic testing right to the patient's bedside and deliver definitive results within 15 minutes. Keith spoke about this product and how it will improve patient outcomes. Dr. Grace Arenas gave a speech about sepsis treatment and Antimicrobial Resistance and how diagnostics help clinicians treat sepsis patients.
